Mazzarri was sacked from his role on Friday, bringing an end to a
great deal of speculation over his future after a poor start to the
campaign.
After guiding the San Siro club to a fifth placed finish in Serie A
last season, Inter currently sit ninth in the league, 12 points adrift
of leaders Juventus.
Inter took the decision to relieve the coach and it was immediately reported that Mancini was the favourite to take over.
Ex-president Moratti insists it was current club chief Erick Thohir
who took the decision and says he is happy to see Mancini, who won three
consecutive league titles with the Nerazzurri in his previous spell at
the club, replace the outgoing Mazzarri.
"Thohir certainly had it in his mind to fire Mazzarri. You have to ask Thohir about it," Moratti said.
"I'm sorry for Mazzarri, he gave it his all. I'm happy for Mancini
and I hope for the best. He's very good, a hard worker and is needed at
this time."
